McKesson's Paul C. Julian Honored With 2015 Nexus Award for Lifetime Achievement

June 9, 2015

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research, HDMA’s non-profit research foundation, and Genentech, Inc., A Member of the Roche Group, honored Paul C. Julian, Executive Vice President and Group President for McKesson Corporation with the 2015 Nexus Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The pharmaceutical distribution industry’s highest individual honor — presented at HDMA’s 2015 Business and Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas — the Nexus Award recognizes exceptional character; accomplishments; and leadership in HDMA, the industry and community.

“Through his participation with HDMA and other industry organizations, Paul has been a tireless champion for the value and efficiencies that distributors provide to the healthcare industry,” said John M. Gray, President and CEO, HDMA. “It has been an honor to work with him, and I congratulate him on this prestigious achievement.”

Julian, who currently oversees McKesson’s domestic and international Distribution Solutions businesses, joined the company in 1996 as Executive Vice President of McKesson Health Systems. He has held a number of roles in the company, including President of McKesson’s medical-surgical business.

As President of McKesson Pharmaceutical, the company rose from third largest to the largest North American pharmaceutical distributor. He further managed an unprecedented operations and technology upgrade in the company’s history, including the adoption of Six Sigma; McKesson is frequently noted for its leadership in fostering productivity in the workplace. Further, among other accomplishments at the company, he is credited with leading the development of McKesson’s Health Mart independent pharmacy network, as well as TogetherRx and Rx Savings Access — savings cards to help seniors save money on their prescription medicines.

John Hammergren, McKesson’s CEO and Chairman, congratulated Julian on receiving the Nexus Award, saying, “Paul and I have worked together for more than two decades. His dedication to this industry, his commitment to his colleagues and his tireless pursuit of operational excellence has always set him apart. McKesson has been fortunate to have Paul’s service over these many years and I am privileged to have him as a friend and colleague.”

Prior to McKesson, Julian served in a number of senior management positions for healthcare companies, including Owens & Minor. At Stuart Medical, Inc., he became Group Vice President and Chief Operating Officer within five years of starting as a Sales Manager. Julian earned his BS from Salem State College in Massachusetts.

Julian served as a member of HDMA’s Board of Directors from 2000–2013. During that time he was a member of the Association’s Executive Committee (2005–2013). From 2008 until 2010, Julian served as HDMA Chairman, a tenure that included advocating for the establishment of a federal traceability framework, among other issues. He also served as the Chairman of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers and serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS).

“Paul Julian’s many career accomplishments and commitment to supply chain excellence and innovation have had a lasting impact on the pharmaceutical distribution industry,” said Karen J. Ribler, Executive Vice President and COO of the Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research. “The Center is delighted to welcome him into the Nexus winners’ circle.”
